3 Factors That Affect Teeth Whitening Results

Teeth Whitening Manhattan BeachFor Redondo Beach area patients thinking about teeth whitening as a solution, there are a couple of things to know. It’s common for a lot of people who struggle with discolored or dull teeth to consider teeth whitening as a solution. Many people have yellowish teeth as a natural result of growing older or due to certain things they consume on a regular basis. At Redondo Beach Dental Group, we provide a custom-made teeth whitening treatment that brings your teeth to their whitest shade.

However, when considering teeth whitening in the Redondo Beach area, there are factors that can affect your results. Nothing would be worse than going in for a teeth whitening procedure and not know how to maintain a bright smile. This is why we recommend that our Redondo Beach area patients are educated about what can go wrong with teeth whitening so that they can choose the best treatment for them. For that reason, our dentists have come up with three of the most common factors that can affect your teeth whitening results:

If you have bonding or composites on your teeth. If you have ever chipped a tooth before or have had a replacement veneer, you should be very careful before considering whitening as a treatment. The reason is that teeth whitening solutions usually only work on your natural teeth. When this chemical is applied on porcelain or a composite material, those materials will not get whiter like the rest of your teeth. If you go through with teeth whitening as a treatment with bonding on your teeth, you risk having discolored teeth as those parts won’t change shades. However, with professionally trained cosmetic dentists, you can find a solution for a more intensive teeth whitening plan that can whiten all of your teeth including bonding.

If you are younger than sixteen years old, our Redondo Beach dentists don’t recommend whitening treatments to children that are in this age bracket. The reason for this is because they are still growing, that includes the pulp chamber in their teeth. Because of this, whitening can actually damage your child’s teeth. We can recommend a whitening treatment to older patients, but for children under sixteen, their teeth are still technically developing. To avoid damage, we would not recommend whitening for young teens.

If you are pregnant, we also don’t recommend teeth whitening treatments. While it’s safe and reasonable to come in for regularly scheduled check-ups and dental appointment, it’s best not to use any unnecessary chemicals on your teeth while you are pregnant. After your pregnancy, it’s completely safe to come in for a teeth whitening solution to brighten up that smile. However, as a safety precaution, we would suggest waiting until after your child is born.

If you would like to know more facts that affect your teeth whitening results, please call us at our office in the Redondo Beach area. We can help schedule your teeth whitening appointment or consultation today.
